PRESS RELEASE TEMPLATE

When the pandemic put a full stop to sports and live event production, CP Communications parked its mobile trucks and shifted its focus to REMI and in-studio production – a business that continues to grow for the company. The return of live sports now has CP Communications treading familiar territory with events such as the MLB All-Star Game, NBA Finals, and – most recently – Aramco Team Series New York, an internationally televised and globally streamed professional golf event.

CP Communications, a specialist in RF and IP-based content acquisition for professional golf events was hired by event producer Ohlmeyer Kusserow Group (OKG) to step in on short notice due to COVID-related restrictions for international production teams. Within two weeks, CP Communications had a turnkey crew and technology plan for the hilly Glen Oaks Club on Long Island in October. CP Communications drove its flagship HD-21 production truck to the course with 50,000 feet of fiber, eight RF cameras, eight RF effects microphones, two RF talent microphones, and course-wide communications. The company also coordinated RF frequencies for live coverage, using special temporary authority, or STAs, from the FCC to acquire spectrum.

“It felt like old times,” said CP Communications CEO Kurt Heitmann. “We have years of experience providing full video and audio coverage of big golf events for major broadcast networks, and the ability to turn around a turnkey system and crew on minimal notice for live productions of any size. When the OKG team came calling, we were ready and eager to step in to help them bring this event to viewers worldwide.”

CP Communications Vice President of Sales and Marketing Aaron Segarra adds that one of the more challenging elements of covering golf is perhaps unexpected.

“Ensuring high-quality video and audio production is essential for any live televised production, but with golf, the most challenging element is clean communication,” he said. “We established a Hytera network with 40 two-radio radios and four channels each of inbound and outbound communications. That is where we really shine for the golf, and it is so important given the number of acquisition points and production sites positioned around the golf.”

cp communications

“Golf is one of the toughest sports to produce, and CP Communications gave us very close to full coverage from tee to green across all holes on a hilly course that is challenging to cover,” said Chris Ohlmeyer, Executive Producer and Managing Partner for Ohlmeyer Kusserow Group. “They executed a plan that allowed them to cleanly capture and run signals RF over fiber, while also supporting our own hard cameras over the same infrastructure. They came through with a professional operations and support team on short notice while also keeping us within budget. These were tall orders with only two weeks from first contact to tee off.”

Featuring Emmy Award-winning journalist Sarina Fazan, the network launch represents a major strategic step forward for Red House Streaming studios and Fazan’s broadcast career

Red House Streaming, a CP Communications brand, announces the launch of its first 24/7 broadcast network. Produced from Red House Streaming (RHS) studios and on-location around the Tampa region, the Sarina Fazan Network launched this week at www.SarinaFazanNetwork.tv. The network offers diverse entertainment, news, and human-interest content, hosted by four-time Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist and producer Sarina Fazan.

Advancing RHS’ vision of online television, the Sarina Fazan Network will feature a mix of live and pre-recorded programming and is available on-demand across all web browsers and mobile platforms, thanks to a dynamic responsive web design. Viewers have access to a non-intrusive scheduling grid positioned underneath the program stream, with a brief description of the program accessible in the bottom right corner.

The RHS studios staff produces all programming using CP Communications’ state-of-the-art broadcast technology, including the company’s exclusive range of CamSTREAM PTZ camera units. CP’s CamSTREAM systems are all-in-one remote production and streaming solutions that capture and deliver content directly to the web or a production studio, and will be used for in-studio and on-location shoots.

All in-studio productions for the Sarina Fazan Network take place at RHS’ St. Petersburg-based professional production facility and network operations center, which features two adjacent 600-square-foot studio spaces and a control room. Studio A houses a professional anchor desk, while Studio B offers an enhanced, dynamic chromakey space for virtual set packages. Both studios are fully customizable, allowing production staff to create a unique on-air appearance for each program, including specific graphics, logos, and more.

The network’s flagship program is On The Record With Sarina Fazan, a live-streamed show that highlights a variety of nationally trending topics and remarkable people. Each episode takes a deep dive into a new subject area, allowing viewers to get to know the people behind the headlines, understand real issues, and enjoy engaging conversation. Additionally, the Sarina Fazan Network features episodes of Unlocking Tampa Bay, a locally produced series that brings the diverse sights, sounds, and tastes of the region to global audiences.

Coming soon to the Sarina Fazan Network are new stand-alone programs hosted by Fazan and inspired by popular segments of her show, such as Love in America, Law and Order, Incredible Stories from Inspiring Women, Kids in the Community, and Business Spotlight. Also in the works is CEO 360, a CEO roundtable program, along with more original content.

Fazan chose RHS studios last year to create a professional signature “look” for her podcast, as she transitioned from recorded programming to a live-streamed show. In a feature story with Radio and TV Business Report, she discussed her goal of launching her own “OTT channel” to bring newsmakers and high-profile people to local, national, and global audiences. The launch of the Sarina Fazan Network represents the first phase of this bold initiative.

“Red House Streaming studios have provided me with a professional platform to bring my stories to wider audiences,” said Fazan. “As a storyteller, returning to a professional production set reintroduces the human element that was challenging to deliver in a self-produced podcast. The gifted team at Red House Streaming studios offers the technology, colorful sets, and production crew we need to make this a reality, while also providing us with complete creative control.”

Vice President of Red House Streaming Lowell Beckner, who previously worked with Fazan at Tampa ABC Television affiliate WFTS-TV and later introduced her to RHS studios, confirms that the network launch also represents the next strategic step for the Red House Streaming studios brand.

“Red House Streaming studios continues to expand, and we can now produce an impressive number of independent streaming television channels in addition to the customized production services we offer for regional and national talent,” said Beckner. “We are thrilled that Sarina will grow her streaming brand with Red House Streaming studios as we build for a bright and creative future. Plans are already in the works for live streaming channels on Roku, AppleTV, and Amazon Fire.”

PRESS RELEASE TEMPLATE

St. Petersburg, FL (October 14, 2021) – CP Communications, a leader in innovative solutions and services for live event productions, announces promotions and new hires, reflecting the successful growth of its Red House Streaming (RHS) subsidiary and CP Communications St. Petersburg (CPSP) operations.

Effective immediately, Lowell Beckner is promoted to Vice President of Red House Streaming and General Manager of CPSP, and Jason Proskurin is promoted to Technical Director for RHS and Sales Administrator for CP Communications. New to the St. Petersburg operation are Beth Weber, hired as Senior Producer for RHS, and Tabitha Coleman, Controller for CP.

Working from CP’s New York office, Aaron Segarra is now Vice President of Sales and Marketing, which includes oversight of all marketing and sales activities for CP and the RHS brand.

“As an organization, we are continually pushing forward the boundaries of broadcast and live event production. We successfully launched our subsidiary, Red House Streaming, during the pandemic, and we are now positioned as the go-to for production in the Tampa Bay market,” said CP’s Chief Executive Officer Kurt Heitmann. “That success is made possible by our hard-working and dedicated staff. These promotions and new hires reflect that effort and the company’s continued growth.”

Lowell Beckner

Beckner joined CP Communications in 2020, focusing on the introduction of the RHS brand and its subsequent growth over the past year. Beckner is credited with the launch of RHS studios in January 2021 and has been instrumental in the expansion of products and services in the RHS ecosystem. In his new position of Vice President of RHS and General Manager of CPSP, Beckner reports to Heitmann and is responsible for the day-to-day operations and business development of the RHS Production Center, including the control room, studios, and network operations center (NOC), as well as the overall management of the CPSP operations.

Beckner is well-suited for this leadership role with more than two decades of engineering, sales, and management in the broadcast industry. His communications career began in the U.S. Air Force with tours at the Joint Special Operations Command and the White House Communications Agency. He spent the next 21 years as a Director of Engineering with TV stations in the southeast and with broadcast media network groups, taking on roles of increasing responsibility with Media General, Cox Media Group, and E.W. Scripps. In 2017, he shifted his focus toward wireless IP networking at Vislink, where he served as Product Manager, IP Systems for Integrated Microwave Technologies, and as Regional Sales Manager for Live Production. Beckner’s valuable hands-on experience across the entire broadcast ecosystem includes engineering creative solutions for newsroom, playout, transmission, and IP/bonded cellular systems.

Beckner said, “Media viewers today want to watch what they want to watch when they want to watch it. With the advances we’ve made at Red House Streaming since we launched in January, we are giving Tampa Bay and even the world more opportunities to view quality streaming 24/7!”

Jason Proskurin

As RHS has expanded services and production capabilities, Proskurin’s role within the company has grown as well. He joined CP in June 2019 as a Sales Administrator, after fourteen years of experience as a media industry freelancer. This promotion to Technical Director is due in large part to his proficiency using NewTek TriCaster and vMix switchers for RHS studio productions and is his second position within the organization. Proskurin reports to Beckner.

In 2005, Proskurin began working as a utility freelancer for FOX Sports Florida (now Bally Sports) in Miami. By 2015, he was a video operator for FOX, covering the National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Hockey League (NHL), Major League Baseball (MLB), and other live sporting events. As a freelancer, he has contributed to coverage by FOX, CBS, ABC, NBC, ESPN, and iHeartMedia.

Proskurin said, “I am deeply humbled by this promotion to Technical Director here at CP Communications and Red House Streaming. I am so grateful to be part of the amazing team we have here, and I am very excited to participate in the innovative evolution of our company. I am truly looking forward to presenting the best quality productions that Red House Streaming studios have to offer.”

Aaron Segarra

Segarra, who recently celebrated his seventeenth year with CP, has been named Vice President of Sales and Marketing. His role in the company has evolved over the years, from his start in 2004 to serving as General Manager/Sales Manager before his promotion to Vice President of Sales and then to this expansion of duties. Reporting to Heitmann, Segarra is now responsible for managing all marketing and sales strategies for CP and the RHS brand. His leadership is instrumental in the development of CP’s robust market presence.

Beth Weber

Based on the increased volume of production work at RHS studios, Weber has been hired as Senior Producer, the first on-staff producer position for RHS. In this role, which reports to Beckner, Weber works hand-in-hand with clients and the RHS technicians, leading show planning efforts and coordinating all aspects of studio production.

After 21 years in the news media as a photojournalist, she is bringing her technical ability and editorial insight to in-house RHS studio productions. Most recently, she worked for major news outlets in the Tampa Bay area.

Weber said, “I am honored to join the CP family. It’s exciting to be part of a company that focuses on the technology of the future. I love sharing stories, and streaming opens up so many possibilities for content creators. I look forward to what we will create together in this new and growing industry.”

Tabitha Coleman

Coleman has been hired by CP to serve as Controller, based at the St. Petersburg headquarters. Having worked at both public accounting firms and in private industry for more than 20 years with approximately ten of those years in a controller position, Coleman has a deep understanding of corporate finance. She comes to CP from a manufacturing firm, where she started as a plant accountant and ultimately served as the corporate controller. For CP, Coleman is tasked with overseeing all accounting. Coleman received her BS/BA degrees in accounting from Union University and her master’s degree/MBA from the University of Tennessee at Martin.

Coleman said, “I am excited for the opportunity to work for a long-standing company that is so passionate and committed to flawlessly meeting all their customers’ broadcasting needs. It is a great environment with great leadership and staff.”

The recent FCC spectrum repack moved nearly 1,200 U.S. TV stations to new UHF and VHF frequencies, freeing spectrum for wireless broadband while leaving less for broadcasters to share. Despite limited transmission resources — and new challenges that come with these changes — CP Communications continues to successfully deliver RF coordination for major sporting events and other live programming.

It was business as usual this summer for ABC’s coverage of the NBA Finals in Milwaukee and Phoenix, but the MLB All-Star Game in Denver was more challenging because there were multiple events and networks. “Every time you add a network, you add more RF,” said Loren Sherman, RF coordinator and field technician. “That made the All-Star Game a little more difficult to coordinate.”

When tasked with RF coordination of wireless transmission of video and audio for an event, CP assigns various entities to specific frequencies within the spectrum for the duration of an event. The purpose is to avoid interference with established spectrum users in the area, such as broadcast stations, as well as other temporary spectrum users that cover the event.

“I think what makes us unique, unlike most frequency coordinators, is that we also operate the gear,” Sherman explained. “We’re not just passing out a number and giving it to people. We understand how the gear operates, so we provide frequencies where the gear can work harmoniously with other pieces of gear. We’re one of the few that do both and we do both well.”

CP technicians coordinate RF frequencies with specialized software while working closely with the venue and local SBE coordinators. CP’s biggest challenge is finding enough spectrum for everyone when there’s simply less spectrum available. To accommodate all media clients during high-profile events, CP relies on receiving special temporary authority, or STA, from the FCC to use parts of the spectrum that are not normally available.

“If we’re going to use STAs, then we need time,” Sherman explained. “We might start planning for something like the Super Bowl a month or two in advance, depending on how many two-way radios we need to coordinate everything.”

While RF coordination is similar for indoor and outdoor events, Sherman said he can usually get more frequency options in an indoor venue. “The venue will often provide protection from digital television stations,” he explained. “Maybe they’ll attenuate that signal enough that it becomes a usable piece of spectrum inside that building. But outside, it is what it is.”

Different outdoor locations yield different results. Denver was “fairly difficult” to coordinate, Sherman said, based on the amount of DTV signals in the region. In contrast, Milwaukee has fewer DTV stations and limited interference with signals from nearby cities. However, CP’s message is that they have the experience, crew, and technology to handle even the most challenging RF coordination jobs.

“We were nowhere near the amount of frequencies we coordinated in the 2019 NBA Finals, though some of that goes to the cities you’re in,” Sherman recalled. “Phoenix and Milwaukee are not the same as Toronto and Oakland. It depends on the area. Go to New York City – there is a lot of DTV filling the spectrum, and New Jersey’s right there, too. So now you have two large communities with DTV, and that’s going to fill the spectrum more.”

Above:The new chromakey set for Studio B at Red House Streaming studios, owned and operated by CP Communications. RHS CamStream all-in-one production and streaming systems are seen at left, right, and top center.

St. Petersburg, Fla. — Red House Streaming, a CP Communications brand, today announced upgrades to one of the two studios at its St. Petersburg-based professional and network operations center (NOC) to create an enhanced chromakey space. Known as Studio B, the new area can easily accommodate a four-person interview set and produce a full 16:9 chromakey shot. Red House Steaming completed the renovations to Studio B in about three weeks and began using the chromakey set in mid-July.

“Our clients absolutely love it,” said Lowell Beckner, Red House Streaming’s general manager. “They are blown away by how much space they can work with in the studio – and when they see a wide shot with that professional chromakey effect behind them, they are already thinking about what they want to try next.”

Originally, Red House Streaming had a small chromakey area in Studio B to accommodate single-person standups. “When we were approached by a client that wanted to produce a pilot for a TV series, we decided we needed something larger,” Beckner said.

That pilot, for a young adult news series, was the first project produced in the new space, but the studio continues to be used for regular programming for other clients. Studio B now features a cyc wall that measures 17 feet across and 12 feet high, as well as soundproofing to accommodate musical acts. Three new Neewer globe lantern softbox diffusers help create even lighting across the set for clean chromakey effects, and additional fixtures are used for lighting talent. Studio B features all LED lighting that is controlled via DMX.

The new chromakey area features four of Red House Streaming’s RHS CamSTREAM PTZ camera units, three on tripods and one mounted high on a vertical truss for wide shots. All four cameras are controlled using a Panasonic AW-RP150 touchscreen remote camera controller in the control room, so there are no camera operators in the studio. The Red House Streaming control room, which is shared by both studios, also features a Yamaha TF1 digital audio mixer, CasparCG graphics, and a vMix production switcher.

“With Studio B’s state-of-the-art chromakey upgrade, our clients can fully utilize our extensive virtual studio set packages,” Beckner added. “We already support a growing base of broadcast clients, but Red House Streaming offers an affordable and convenient solution for local businesses to create everything from training videos to commercials.”

The chromakey studio is the first major upgrade for Red House Streaming studios, which launched its first production in January 2021. The facility already has several regular clients using its production studios as well as its NOC for content management and delivery. Red House Streaming also offers mobile production and streaming packages.

St. Petersburg, Florida CP Communications, a leader in innovative solutions and services for live event productions, provided RF coordination and an extensive complement of equipment for ESPN, FOX, and MLB Network during Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game and related events earlier this month at Coors Field in Denver. The RF Coordination strategy for the All-Star Game included pre-planning and acquisition of 1108 frequencies, covering RF video systems, audio, return video, paint control, intercoms and two-way radios.

Operating from its flagship HD21 mobile production unit, the CP Communications crew provided support for the Home Run Derby on July 12 (ESPN), the Red Carpet All-Star Show at McGregor Square on July 13 (MLB Network), the All-Star Game on July 13 (FOX), and the three-day MLB Draft at the Bellco Theatre in Denver that started on July 11 (ESPN and MLB Network). CP also assisted with on-site studio shows for all three networks, including ESPN’s Baseball Tonight and FOX’s pregame show, which were setup in various locations across Coors Field. Other key clients serviced include ESPN Radio, Sirius XM Radio and the MLB Commissioner’s Office.

“We had our own all-star crew of 23 on site that was truly second to none,” said Michael Mason, president of CP Communications. “Over four days, we coordinated between three networks in multiple venues producing event coverage plus regularly scheduled network programming. Coordination was an essential part of our game plan. The All-Star Game is one of the most high-profile events in professional sports, and we delivered high-quality support for all of our clients.”

CP’s support included 16 RF handheld cameras, including two FlyCam systems, two “Megalodon” Sony cameras (with shallow depth of field), a Sony HDC-P50 compact POV on a MōVI camera rig, a SteadiCam, and batting cage POVs. CP added 60 wireless microphones that were used throughout the events by reporters and other on-air talent, plus umpires, coaches, and players. Some mics were even planted in the ground to capture game audio and effects.

“The TV transmitters installed on mountains around Coors Field can create challenges for wireless productions,” Mason added. “Before the action, we performed accurate site surveys and current spectrum scans so we could deliver reliable wireless video and audio signals.”

The Laugh Academy’s “Humor in Hard Times” message and custom video content amplified through the studio’s dynamic studio sets, broadcast-quality workflow and streaming expertise

CLICK HERE to see news coverage.

St. Petersburg, Florida, May 25, 2021 — Red House Streaming, a CP Communications brand, continues to lure local and national talent seeking professional production and streaming services to its new Tampa-area studio. Nancy Weil, proprietor of The Laugh Academy, is the latest to call on Red House Streaming studios, leveraging its dynamic production sets, broadcast-quality workflow and experienced crew to produce custom videos for her clients.

Red House Streaming Studios offers two adjacent 600-square-foot studios, virtual sets, and 5,000 feet of additional production space for content producers of any kind. The studio accommodates on-set talent who wish to live-stream productions or record content for later distribution. Red House Streaming Studios is also equipped to support REMI at-home productions that originate from remote locations, strengthened by an onsite network operations center to monitor and manage all production and content delivery tasks.

A leading authority on the relationship between humor and grief, the Tampa-based Weil turned to Red House Streaming studios to bring her customized, content-rich lectures, programs and seminars to clients that could no longer see her on the road. “COVID-19 put an immediate halt to my live speaking engagements,” said Weil. “I went from being a road warrior traveling at least two weeks a month to being home 24/7.”

A Certified Laughter Leader, Weil soon discovered that the funeral homes, hospice groups and conferences that regularly called on her talents still had a thirst for her unique services. She began offering virtual events through standard conferencing software platforms but found the results mixed and the limitations frustrating.

“There are so many peculiarities when presenting over a virtual stream, from general video and audio glitches to incorrect meeting links to complete loss of internet connectivity,” she said. “I wanted to present as a professional speaker and offer a pleasant and consistent experience for my clients. I saw a local news story about Red House Streaming studios, and they seemed to be the right production partner to help me manage these production dynamics that I could not guarantee on my own.”

Weil started shooting in the studio in March, pre-recording her custom programs for each client. Red House Streaming Studios shoots and post-produces each video, using Panasonic 4K cameras, NDI networking and Adobe Premier Pro editing as essential workflow components. The videos are subsequently delivered to clients direct and shared on Weil’s Vimeo account, with select clips expected to post to her website, https://thelaughacademy.com, in the coming weeks.

Weil finds that beyond the studio’s overall professional production value, the crew’s technical experience and problem-solving expertise has elevated her “Laughter Hits Home” vision to unexpected levels.

“With Red House Streaming studios, every project can now be fully unique,” she said. “We load special graphics and create virtual sets specific to each program and client. We frame each shot to ensure the background is perfect for each segment. Props are essential to what we do at The Laugh Academy, and they can accommodate anything I bring onto the set as a part of each program. I can monitor what is happening on displays around the studio to ensure everything is going exactly as planned. On top of everything else, the service is surprisingly affordable, with excellent technical support as needed. The quality of the content my clients receive is absolutely worth the fees I pay.”

Weil’s experiences to date have been so exceptional that she is now planning live streams with the Red House Streaming Studios team. She plans to continue using the studios after she eventually returns to the road.

“Whether on the road or streaming live from Red House Streaming studios, we are diversifying how we bring our positive message to clients,” said Weil. “We focus on bringing information that can change lives in both positive and entertaining ways, and Red House Streaming Studios has empowered us with new ways to help our clients move through stress and grief with laughter.”
